The Lloyd’s List Podcast: Breaking down the silos

On this week’s podcast we are joining the dots between the new technology that promises ever greater collaboration and efficiency, and the practical problem of how to break down the silos of a traditional industry. Joining Lloyd’s List editor Richard Meade to debate the issues are the esteemed economist Martin Stopford, DNVGL’s Magnus Lande, BMT’s Richard Westgarth and Silje Bareksten from Nor-Shipping

THE enhanced efficiencies promised by the introduction of new technologies and a fully integrated supply chain will first need to overcome the practical problems of a traditional industry that continues to operate in silos.

For some, this is about technology, for others digitalisation offers a new way of engaging with customers, but ultimately we are talking about entirely new ways of doing business.

Digitalisation is only partly about the hardware — the more significant ingredient to this epoch shift is about how companies, from management to crew, find a new way of doing things more efficiently and establish a more collaborative way of working.

This week the Lloyd’s List Podcast dropped in on a round table session where industry leaders were considering the practical issues of how a connected industry, where partnerships are a crucial part of a business strategy, really works and what needs to change.

Joining Lloyd’s List Editor Richard Meade at an Immediasea event held in London were:

• Martin Stopford, President, Clarksons Research Services

• Magnus Lande, Commercial Director Maritime, Veracity at DNVGL

• Richard Westgarth, Head of Campaigns, BMT

• Silje Bareksten, Head of Sustainability and Technology, Nor-Shipping
