Maersk Broker Bulk Chartering in merger with Wonsild Dry

Danish brokerage is moving to bring Wonsild's dry bulk operations under its banner to be more competitive globally. A full integration will begin from next year

Wonsild Dry offices in Copenhagen and Singapore will combine with MBBC’s teams

MAERSK Broker Bulk Chartering has announced a decision to merge with shipbrokers Wonsild Dry in a move to boost the pair's global competitiveness.

The Danish brokerage, which is already a major shareholder of Wonsild Dry, would fully integrated the latter in January 2019, it said.

Wonsild Dry offices in Copenhagen and Singapore will combine with MBBC's teams in the respective cities, while its offices in Hong Kong and Bangkok will be added to MBBC's existing locations in London, Hamburg, Dubai, Delhi, Beijing, Taipei, Seoul and Tokyo.

However, Wonsild’s tanker activities will remain independent.

“Wonsild Dry and Maersk Broker Bulk Chartering share the view that increasing expectations and demands from clients in a highly competitive dry bulk market will require best in class broking services both commercially and operationally,” the announcement said.

“We are certain that a combined global organisation will create a stronger platform for further growth and, indeed, a company that will be able to service our many loyal clients even better in the future.”

MBBC added that it would continue to invest considerable resources in business development, including enhanced research and digital solutions.
