LLOYD’s List has appointed a new container shipping reporter in Hong Kong, further developing its coverage of box shipping in north Asia.

Tae-jun Kang’s language and journalism skills will help boost Lloyd’s List’s overall coverage of the maritime sectors in Japan and his native South Korea.

Tae-jun previously worked at the Financial Times and related publications in Hong Kong and Seoul, where he covered the banking and fund management industries in the Asia-Pacific. In the process of his coverage of institutional investors, pension funds, asset management companies and financial regulators, Tae-jun clinched the “Highly Commended Best New Comer” award in the 2015 State Street Institutional Press Awards Asia Pacific.

Before that, he reported on a variety of issues over North Korea including politics, society, economy, international relations and culture. He has also worked in the riot police in Seoul – skills expected to put him good stead in the rough and tumble world of maritime journalism.

An avid baseball fan in his spare time, Tae-jun was once captured on Fox News as a super-excited fanatic fan during a game in the US.
