Container demand growth eased in April, not that one would notice from the carnage in the market. Port congestion, rising rates, equipment shortages, rising rates, schedule delays, rising rates, rolled cargo, rising rates… who would want to be in a business dependent on container shipping now? In dry bulk, the capricious capesize market is still an enigma, particularly in comparison with soaring panamax rates that have been supported by thriving grain trades. For tankers it’s still a game of wait and see as everyone waits for the second half recovery, keeping a close eye on gasoline demand and daily death figures as a leading indicator
