Hong Kong well positioned but dependent on external forces
The city is dependent on free and open global trade for its future and so will need to rely on, as well as balance, the role it plays in relation to mainland China. But it has set itself up well by making use of its advantages
There is not much Hong Kong can do to control its external environment and this will inevitably affect its fate as a small, open-trading economy. However, maritime industry leaders are optimistic the city can play to its strengths to prepare it for the future
