New orders for general cargo carriers at record low
Total fleet size in dwt terms to rise in coming years as more large vessels are ordered
Orders for new general cargoships will hit an all-time low in 2020 and deliveries over the next five years will be 25% down on the 2015-2019 period, according to new Lloyd’s List Intelligence data. However, in deadweight tonnage terms, the fleet size will grow due to increased ordering of larger vessels
