Coronavirus: Paris MOU relaxes rules as UK suspends port state control

The Paris Memorandum of Understanding on Port State Control responds to the coronavirus pandemic by temporarily relaxing rules on vessel and seafarer certification, handing member states discretion on whether to conduct hitherto obligatory inspections

‘While we cannot compromise on safety, there are a number of temporary measures we are taking to ensure shipping does not come to a standstill and seafarers can keep working,’ says the UK Maritime and Coastguard Agency’s safety director Katy Ware
