Port of Virginia dredging project starts
Dredging began this week and will widen the port's main shipping channel to more than 1,400 ft and deepen it to 55 ft, improvements that will allow the simultaneous passage of two, ultra-large box ships
‘This project, combined with the $750m we are investing to increase container capacity by 1m units per year, sets up Virginia to be the premier gateway for trade on the east coast,’ said Virginia Port Authority chief executive and president John F. Reinhart
