Guangzhou to give cash handouts to low-sulphur ships

Subsidies will be provided to ships that switch to fuel with no more than 0.1% sulphur content when entering in the port. Local owners can also apply for rewards if they fit propeller systems powered by liquefied natural gas, battery or other clean energies on vessels

State subsidy scheme, which is still under government review, is expected to start from January 1, 2019 and last for two years
