Economou adds LNG newbuilds as DryShips strikes VLGC deal

George Economou’s current preference for LNG carriers over LPG has been underlined with the firming up of three LNG newbuild options at Hyundai Heavy Industries and Samsung Heavy, taking his group’s firm order tally at the two Korean yards to seven. At the same time, Mr Economou’s Nasdaq-listed shipping company DryShips has disclosed a deal to sell its four very large gas carriers to an unaffiliated buyer, subject to approval from charterers Shell and Clearlake
