Owners’ rights in focus after back-tax victory
ON FEBRUARY 12, 2010, the Norwegian Supreme Court decreed that transitional rules introduced in 2007 relating to the Norwegian tonnage tax regime were unconstitutional. Although the full consequences of the decision are not yet clear, from either a commercial or a legal point of view, this can be seen as a victory for the Norwegian shipowning community and for the country’s shipping industry generally.
