Better than black draught
IN MY attic I have a small mahogany medical chest which belonged to one of my ancestors, who commanded the full rigged ship Isles of the South in the 1860s. We also have the six bottles it used to contain, in which the master would store the only medicines available to his passengers and crew for the two or three month passage.
