BANKING of a forfeited financial guarantee from international terminal operator Hutchison, following withdrawal of its bid for a long term operating lease for Thessaloniki’s container terminal, was instrumental in keeping the northern Greek port in the black in the first half of 2009, writes Nigel Lowry in Athens .
