Karachi, Jul 1 -- Manual handling of bulk cargo at Haldia dock of India has again been disrupted, after contractors' workers stopped work for the last few days. They took this step after the breakdown of their talks with their employers over the revision of wages and other benefits. As a result, the daily cargo throughput at the dock has dropped to around 55,000 tonnes from its normal level of around 90,000 tonnes. According to the media, Haldia dock authorities claim that the operation of mechanised berths, such as the oil jetties, mechanised ore berth and container berth, are so far unaffected. The operation of the BOT berth No 12, however, remained suspended from yesterday. There are a total of 22 vessels inside the affected dock, including 15 vessels at berths, of which 10 are working. There are 26 vessels waiting outside the dock. -- Correspondent. (See issue of Jun 26.)
