Cat bond triggers hit by K-Net problems
THE increasing popularity of parametric triggers for catastrophe bonds, because they provide an objective measure of the severity of a disaster and facilitate speedier payments than indemnity-based triggers, has suffered a setback with the revelation that the Kyoshin network of Japanese earthquake reporting stations (K-Net) might have been knocked out either by the quake itself or, more probably, by the subsequent tsunami.
