Salary: Competitive, depending on experience
This is a new and challenging role within the OCIMF Secretariat assigned to strengthen OCIMF’s technical capability to engage across the industry on environmental matters and broaden advocacy and external collaboration activities related to the environment and energy transition.
This position requires a subject matter expert who will represent OCIMF as an industry thought leader, championing safety in the climate agenda. The role will support the Environmental Functional Committee to deliver on their multi-year strategic plan.
This role will build OCIMF inhouse expertise and knowledge related to the environmental agenda, with specific relevance to our member’s needs.
The successful candidate will support the OCIMF Strategic Objectives, Mission, and Vision by:
- engaging and learning with industry organisations and academia on environmental issues,
- influencing conversations through advocacy with EU and USA, and preparing submissions for advocacy at the IMO, and
- working with expert groups and industry stakeholders to develop best practice guidance.
The successful candidate should demonstrate prior understanding and knowledge of existing and potential environmental issues impacting the maritime industry, especially with regards to tankers, inland barging, terminals and offshore.
The candidate will embed OCIMF values in their work by treating others with respect and working collaboratively across the Forum. They will also support OCIMF’s Strategy by delivering valuable outputs through efficient work solutions and identifying opportunities for continual improvement.
While reporting to the Publications & Advocacy Director, day-to-day duties will include:
Support IMO discussions on the environment and share relevant information and knowledge internally with other advisors. Work with internal colleagues and members to support OCIMF’s effective engagement at the International Maritime Organisation (IMO).
Monitor internal and external industry activities related to the energy transition that are necessary to develop and manage OCIMF’s environmental strategy. Determine gaps in the strategy where OCIMF requires more member support on environmental matters.
Represent OCIMF in a technical capacity in global arenas on environmental and marine industry sustainability issues.
Network effectively and collaborate with key industry stakeholders. Strengthen OCIMF’s advocacy, technical and external collaboration activities related to the environment and energy transition.
Ensure OCIMF and its members are aware of emerging technologies.
Partner with the Engineering Advisor and Environmental Functional Committee on common work. Serve as an SME on environmental science topics and issues, when needed.
Track and monitor trends and developments related to the energy transition.
Support members by studying and understanding the safety and operational issues they are facing related to decarbonisation.
Assist in developing publications which support the data collection and interpretation, data, carbon footprint calculation and associated risks.
Gather the short-, medium- and long-term legal framework on environment matters, as available.
This is an opportunity for someone with technical expertise.
Candidates for this role should have advanced technical specialist knowledge in the maritime field and an awareness of international maritime legislation, including the workings of International Maritime Organization (IMO).
This is a standalone role, but the candidate must be a collaborator. They must demonstrate excellent organisational skills and diligence.
