Ports and terminals of every shape and size are being asked by increasingly consolidated shipping companies and alliances to spend huge amounts of money on advanced technology, giant ship-shore cranes and ground-handling equipment. In a Catch 22 scenario, these facilities may only be used for short periods, while standing idle for lengthy terms and earning nothing. But failure to provide them risks losing business to elsewhere
