Star Bulk posts loss as scrubber installation costs mount

The Greek bulker owner has suffered a net loss for the first quarter due in no small measure to about 300 off-hire days resulting from dry dockings needed to fit vessels with scrubbers. About 40 of its bulkers will be scrubber-fitted by end-May, it says, and about 50 installations at sea are planned to curb downtime as much as possible

The Nasdaq-listed bulk carrier owner expects to have 40 scrubber-fitted vessels by the end of this month and has brought all 2020 dry dockings forward into this year
