Viewpoint: Let the stores go through
There are still docksides around the world that make store vans jump through bureaucratic hoops and even force them to pay for their access to ships in port, with reasons ranging from being a petty jobsworth to local corruption and officials visualising the ISPS Code as a licence to make money at somebody else’s expense
The draconian measures put into place after 9/11 around port security are now being too strictly imposed by jobsworths to the extent that store vans trying to service ships at the dockside face unwarranted delays, unworkable time slots for deliveries and absurdly high charges by some ports
