Chevron bids $33bn for Anadarko Petroleum

A $33bn deal to acquire Anadarko Petroleum would make US energy giant Chevron the world’s third-largest oil producer, give it the lead position in the Permian Basin and new exposure to East Africa’s LNG sector. The deal is far from done, with rival bids possible and further consolidation in the energy sector expected

The deal would boost Chevron into the ultramajors, increasing its presence in the Permian and US Gulf, and giving it a foothold in East Africa
