Pollution at UK ports estimated to cost at least $188m per year
A new study argues that a switch to shoreside 100% renewable energy supply would result in major financial savings for the UK. The levels of pollutants of ships emitted while at berth inflict health and environmental damage whose monetary cost the UK government has estimated. The study claims the UK could save up to £483m ($666.8m) a year by eliminating these pollutant emissions altogether
Ro-ro vessels, bulk carriers and passenger ferries were among the heaviest polluters berthed at UK ports in 2016
