US lawmakers propose carbon tax on shipping

The Democrat lawmakers behind the Clean Shipping Act of 2023 are proposing further rounds of maritime decarbonisation legislation

Citing the International Maritime Organization’s lack of progress on decarbonisation, some US lawmakers are floating about the idea of emission-reduction bills that would involve a carbon tax. However, such suggestions would need to garner bipartisan support if they are to make it anywhere near the statute book
