Lloyd’s List launches Decarbonisation Survey

Industry invited to take part in latest study into shipping’s energy transition

Lloyd’s List’s second Decarbonisation Survey — in association with Lloyd’s Register — adds ‘carbon clarity’ to the industry’s decarbonisation debate, charting shifting sentiment towards alternative fuels, financing and investment and how shipping is responding to the challenge

DECARBONISATION remains front and centre of industry discourse, as shipping looks to answer the many unanswered questions surrounding the regulatory and technical hurdles of this energy transition.

In a bid to add “carbon clarity”, Lloyd’s List, in association with class society Lloyd’s Register, has launched its second Decarbonisation Survey as we seek to take an industry temperature check to understand how sentiment is changing towards alternative fuels, financing and investment and how shipping is responding to the challenges of the coming decade.

More than a quarter of the owners, operators and managers that responded to our previous survey identified decarbonisation as the greatest challenge to the industry, while regulatory guidance was deemed pivotal if shipping’s ambitions are indeed to materialise.

Following on from the 2020 edition, the intention is to track how the industry’s thinking around its climate responsibilities is evolving and illustrate how this collective mood shift could influence stakeholder behaviour and alter the dynamics of the world fleet.

The survey is intended to run for several years to measure changes and trends.

The results will be published routinely on the Lloyd’s List website and disseminated through different forums and White Papers.
