Hapag-Lloyd chief executive Rolf Habben Jansen says he understands why the Federal Maritime Commission has criticised carriers’ surcharges, with the German container line already deciding not to impose any new levies except in very particular circumstances
Surcharges set by Hapag-Lloyd are likely to be more focused in future, and applied to those customers that consistently breach contract terms by, for example, misdeclaring container weights, not delivering cargo to the port on time, or providing inaccurate documentation
