Marshall Islands doubles down on $100 emissions levy plan

The proposal by the Marshall Islands and the Solomon Islands seeks to clarify that the levy is not a tax because ‘no payments are collected by any state and no disbursements are made by any state’

In a more detailed proposal to the International Maritime Organization, the Marshall Islands and the Solomon Islands suggest that a $100 carbon dioxide levy on all ships could increase either annually or every five years by 30% or 100%
