India views its Chabahar development as a rival to Pakistan’s Gwadar port, which it interprets as a threat to its regional dominance due to the co-operation between its neighbour and China

The project created a trade route for India to Afghanistan and Europe bypassing Pakistan, with which India has had a strained relationship. But with the Taliban’s rise to prominence the port could prove a dead investment
