Ever Given arrives in Rotterdam four months after blocking Suez Canal
Four months after running aground, Ever Given makes its first call in Europe
Evergreen-chartered vessel that closed the Suez Canal has been slowly steaming to its destination since it left Egyptian waters. Cargo will be discharged at Rotterdam and Felixstowe
THE long-delayed Ever Given has finally arrived in Europe, sneaking into Rotterdam under cover of darkness.
Vessel tracking data from Lloyd’s List Intelligence shows the 20,000 teu Ever Given (IMO: 9811000) berthed at Hutchison’s ECT Delta terminal in the early hours of July 29.
A statement from Hutchison said all Continental European cargo will be offloaded at Rotterdam. The vessel will then depart for Felixstowe to deliver the remaining containers in the UK.
A planned call at Hamburg has been cancelled and containers for Hamburg will be transhipped on to Evergreen’s 5,652 teu Ever Utile (IMO: 9188154) for transport to Hamburg.
Cargo owners with shipments on board will, however, have to pay a general average bond before cargo can be released.
Ever Given’s arrival in Rotterdam comes almost four months after it ran aground in the Suez Canal, blocking the critical waterway for five days.
It was held under arrest for three months while its owner and insurer negotiated a settlement with the Suez Canal Authority.
