Hapag-Lloyd unit reflags five ships for US fleet

The five containerships, which have been operating under foreign flags and with foreign crews, will become US-flagged vessels and have American crews as required by the Maritime Security Program

The Maritime Security Program was established in 1996 for 47 vessels. It was reauthorised for 60 vessels in 2003 and under the National Defense Authorization Act of 2020 was extended through to 2035
