Fears for Filipino jobs as crew deployments crash
The International Maritime Employers’ Council said the coronavirus backdrop was responsible for some, but not all, of the fall. Employers may turn to other nationalities at some point in the future
Filipino seafarer deployments fell by 300,000, or 58%, in the past year. The decline mirrors the imposition of draconian travel curbs, prompting fears the country may lose seafaring jobs to other crewing nations
