Congress backs expansion of Houston ship channel
Authorisation to widen and deepen the Houston Ship Channel comes under the Water Resources Development Act of 2020, part of the year-end omnibus and Covid relief legislative package called the Consolidated Appropriations Act 2021
'The bottom line is an expanded channel that will positively impact the flow of goods in and out of our region', said Port Houston chairman Ric Campo, even as the port handled 262,930 teu in November 2020, 7% more than the 245,738 teu it processed in November 2019 – a surge that has helped the facility come even with the year-to-date total for 2019
