Surging ship calls bring record containerised cargo to California ports

The number of ships going into the San Pedro Bay ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach has nearly doubled in recent months, creating delays for vessels heading north and causing reduced throughput figures for Oakland

The Los Angeles-based Marine Exchange of Southern California confirmed the glut, recording 52 containerships in the San Pedro Bay ports on Monday, compared to the 2019 average of 24 vessels a day. The record number also extended to ships at anchor: 23 compared to just one in 2019
