Samsung Heavy picks up tanker and LNG carrier orders worth $241m

The South Korean yard is the premier builder of liquefied natural gas carriers in the world. Its latest order brings its backlog order tally to 31. It also picked up a late spurt of orders in November as it strives to meet its annual order target of $8.4bn

A late surge in newbuilding orders has brought Samsung Heavy’s order backlog up to $4bn, meeting 48% of its annual order target. Some $2.9bn of these were netted in November alone as the pace of orders picked up slightly from a slow coronavirus-ridden year of cautious sentiment
