Dissent in European shipping circles over EU’s green rules

Once universally opposed and condemned, the EU’s aspirations to regulate shipping greenhouse gas emissions have forced shipowners to compromise and begin acknowledging their impending reality. But there are evident differences on where the EU’s main shipping bodies stand

Greek shipowners are still against an EU emissions measure. However, if it has to happen, they believe it should be a mandatory levy payed by charterers. Danish shipowners suggest that initially there could be a domestic Emissions Trading System, which could potentially expand to international level in 10 years
