Lloyd’s List recently hosted a panel of top shipowning names who offered their views and insights on a range of issues, including whether the risks-rewards balance for the owner has changed in an era of increased volatility and disruptions to global trade growth

Among the topics discussed by the expert panel were the ongoing effects of the coronavirus pandemic on shipping, including the accelerated uptake of digital solutions, the crew-change crisis and discouragement from ordering new vessels, which could lead to strong freight markets and improved returns for those that invest wisely.
There was general acceptance though that the biggest game changer for the industry in the longer term is decarbonisation, and it is this subject that brings most concerns to shipowners.
