Newbuild demand may boost scrubber fittings

The fuel price spread may have narrowed but the differential still supports scrubber installations for the larger ships in each vessel category, observers say. Barring new regulations against the abatement technology, shipowners still appear keen to consider scrubber investments for newbuildings

The case for future scrubber investments is likely to be based on narrower fuel price spreads, which is far off from the previously envisaged consensus forecast of a $100-$200 range. However, observers suggest that for larger vessels, the numbers still translate to substantial savings, even at a spread of $50
