US channel blocked to deep-draft vessels after hurricane

Louisiana’s Calcasieu Ship Channel remains restricted for deep-draft vessels. However, ports in the US Gulf Coast region have generally come through the season with relatively little damage due to federal government funding for rebuilding to withstand hurricanes

The US Army Corps of Engineers is currently dealing with a barge that sank in Louisiana’s Calcasieu Ship Channel on Tuesday — one of three obstructions to be removed before deep-draft vessels can resume. The restrictions are adversely impacting the region’s petroleum industry
