New Diamond towed to Fujairah after owner pays compensation

The shipowner is said to have paid $2.4m to Sri Lanka's government agencies for the cost incurred in putting out the fire on board. It is also required to pay a separate compensation for the marine environmental damage caused by the oil leak

The fire-stricken VLCC is expected to arrive at Fujairah later this month, after which the crude on board will be pumped out and repair work will start. Sri Lanka was said to have permitted the vessel to leave its waters after some last-minute negotiations regarding compensation
