All green fuels carry a certain risk for shipping, particularly the storage and combustion of hydrogen and ammonia, which is far more dangerous exercise compared to the long-established residual and distillate fuel oils
Future fuels, such as ammonia and hydrogen, may provide the energy shipping needs to traverse the seas without cooking the planet, but like the fossils fuels they replace they present safety challenges
