RCL second-quarter profit jumps on better rates
Intra-Asia feeder line RCL's good results show that the gains reaped by the container lines in the second quarter are not restricted to just the mainline carriers. Measures to cope with reduced shipping demand due to the coronavirus outbreak, such as special port calls and extra sailings, helped to mitigate falls in volume
The bulk of the gains for the first half of the year came in the second quarter, as lower bunker costs combined with an 8% rise in freight income to bring RCL a twenty-fold rise in second quarter net profit
