Investigations to determine cause of Wakashio disaster could take months
The Japanese bulker that grounded off Mauritius on July 25 has split, prompting investigations by authorities in Mauritius and Japan, flag state Panama and the owner Nagashiki to determine the cause of the incident which led to some 1,000 tonnes of fuel oil leaking into the Indian Ocean
Various investigations will need to be completed to determine the cause of the Wakashio grounding, which could take a considerable amount of time. As an example, it took two years for the casualty investigation report to be published following the Stellar Daisy incident in 2017
