Focus on shipping’s prospects at Posidonia forum

The Lloyd’s List Posidonia Week Forum, to be held in October in co-operation with Posidonia Exhibitions the organisers of the Greece-based trade fair, will feature a panel of leading shipowners, to be announced shortly

Lloyd’s List will partner organisers of Greek super-event in a digitally streamed discussion scheduled for October 26

A SHIFTING balance of risks and rewards facing today’s shipowners is just one of the key issues set to be debated by a panel of top industry personalities at a Lloyd’s List digital forum.

The event will be streamed live on October 26, marking what was to have been the opening of the Posidonia 2020 exhibition in Greece.

One of the shipping world’s super-events, Posidonia biennially attracts tens of thousands of maritime visitors from around the globe and lies at the hub of a week of debate, networking and fun that epitomises the traditional character of shipping as a ‘people business’.

At least, that is the case in a normal year. Posidonia recently became one of the very biggest of the many maritime events called off due to coronavirus concerns.

The Lloyd’s List Posidonia Week Forum, to be held in co-operation with Posidonia Exhibitions, the organisers of the Greece-based trade fair, will feature a high-level panel of shipowners, to be announced shortly.

They will bring their acumen and insights to bear on some of the most important questions facing the shipping industry as it struggles with the ongoing effects of the pandemic but also strives to look beyond that.

“We are pleased to have the co-operation of the organisers of Posidonia for this upcoming forum,” said Lloyd’s List managing editor Richard Meade. “Posidonia is a unique event in the maritime calendar and cannot be replaced.

“However, we hope to fill a small part of the gap that has been left and I am excited about the agenda for this forum that seeks to identify how shipping can move forward in our troubled times.”

Panellists will discuss the prospects for shipowning in an era of increased volatility and disruptions to global trade growth.

The event will also prompt consideration of how the pandemic and other geopolitical developments will change ways of doing business, including whether it will hasten the digitilisation of shipping and how the industry’s human resources may evolve in its shadow.

The Lloyd’s List Forum will lead off a week of digital events that is being coordinated by the organisers.

Posidonia Digital Conference Week will be taking place in October “with a full programme of web conferences and seminars highlighting once again our commitment to this unique industry,” said Posidonia Exhibitions managing director Theodore Vokos.

Bringing the maritime community together is what Posidonia is all about,” he said.

Lloyd’s List Digital Forums offer a unique mix of live event engagement with leading industry thinkers and influencers together with access to Lloyd’s List Intelligence data insights and exclusive content.
