Shipowners remain pessimistic about EU relief
European shipowners in dry bulk and other ocean-going trades are facing a liquidity crunch as a result of the coronavirus pandemic. Is this the moment for Brussels to at last show some empathy with shipping’s long-haulers?
The preference is said to be for an EU-backed temporary moratorium on bank repayments and a full covenant waiver on all performing loans. The aim would be to allow otherwise healthy owners to get through the immediate period and give time for trade to pick up again
