LBM and LSM have long been advocated by supporters of liquefied natural gas as viable decarbonisation options, as they can use the same infrastructure and would require minor vessel modifications. A new study on the two fuels indicates LBM faces an easier road ahead in terms of available supply and production cost, but LSM could also grow under the right conditions.
Intensive carbon pricing to help both fuels, as well as ramp-up of renewable electricity supply to boost LSM production, will be required
