Port of Charleston gets backing for container transfer facility

Plans call for constructing and operating the intermodal container transfer facility on an approximately 135-acre site. They also envisage undertaking off-site roadway and rail improvements for a total of some 231 acres. The project is seen as the ‘final piece’ of the port’s strategy to boost rail-borne cargo
