Panama Canal expansion drives continuing growth at US east coast ports
Since the opening of the expanded canal, east coast ports have become better equipped to handle the larger boxships with capacities up to 15,000 teu, compared with the 5,000 teu ships previously familiar in the area
The volume of containers passing through east coast ports has increased by 46.8% since 2008, while growth along the west coast has been at a much slower rate of 18.4%
