Closure of US refinery set to boost tanker rates

The Philadelphia Energy Solutions refinery will shut down permanently following an explosion last week at its alkylation unit. The move is a likely boon for product tanker rates as the loss of a major gasoline and diesel supplier to the US east coast is replaced with European imports

The closure will have a positive impact on medium-range tonne miles as the US east coast looks to European imports
