Tanker attacks: Gulf attacks may lift tanker rates

VLCC rates have already jumped to $16,000 per day on higher rates out of the Middle East Gulf, helped by the disruptions from the tanker attacks on Thursday, Clarksons reports. Owners are said to be halting new fixtures although vessels bound for the region that have just loaded and are several weeks away are still continuing their voyages for now

Owners are said to be halting new fixtures on vessels for trading with the Gulf as their concerns are deepening over the safety of calling at ports in the region. The resulting shortage of vessel supply and increase in operating costs will likely give a lift to tanker earnings
