Freight demand set to triple by 2050, says OECD

The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development predicts maritime freight transport will grow at a compound annual growth rate of 3.6% through to 2050, a near tripling of today’s totals. Air cargo will see the most rapid growth by mode, and all transport lanes will face major challenges

The economic value of freight flows in the North Pacific and Indian Oceans will increase nearly four-fold between 2015 and 2050, according to the OECD
