MOL Chemical Tankers eyes hybrid scrubbers for some vessels
The chemical tanker owner-operator, which ranks second by fleet size after acquiring Nordic Tankers, first decided to go for hybrid scrubbers last year before some ports banned open-loop scrubbers. But it has taken time to commit to scrubber installations and it is also looking to embrace other lower-sulphur bunker options, according to managing director Tsuneo Watanabe
If Drewry's projection for the larger sector is any indication, MOLCT as with its bigger rival, Stolt Nielsen, may turn to higher cost, lower sulphur bunker options to power most vessels on its combined fleet with Nordic Tankers
