While hampering future growth and the ongoing operations at the Port of Oakland might not presently seem like something to make a significant impact on the City of Oakland, the long-term economic and physical impacts of ceding maritime freight transportation resources to retail and residential development will harm the city and its citizens

Don Marcus, president of the International Organisation of Masters, Mates & Pilots, sums up the matter well, saying any decision to put a ballpark ‘on irreplaceable maritime industrial property is short-sighted and absolutely irresponsible’
